New Delhi, Nov 14 (NationPress) The Kolkata Knight Riders, a franchise with three IPL titles, have officially brought on board Tim Southee, the renowned fast bowler from New Zealand, as their new bowling coach for the upcoming 2026 season.
Southee is no stranger to KKR, having played for the team during the IPL seasons of 2021, 2022, and 2023. He takes over the coaching position following the departure of Bharat Arun to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Southee will collaborate with head coach Abhishek Nayar, mentor Dwayne Bravo, and the newly appointed assistant coach Shane Watson.
“KKR has always felt like home to me, and it’s an honour to return in this new role. The franchise has an incredible culture, passionate fans, and a great group of players. I look forward to working closely with the bowlers and helping the team achieve success in IPL 2026,” Southee expressed in a statement.
Regarded as one of the finest fast bowlers of his era, Southee was a key player for New Zealand for nearly 15 years, amassing 107 Test matches, 150 ODIs, and 120 T20Is, and taking over 700 wickets in total.
Famed for his swing bowling and precision, Southee also led New Zealand in various formats and was pivotal in their journey to the 2019 ODI World Cup finals and the 2021 World Test Championship victory before retiring from international cricket in December of last year.
Recently, Southee served as a fast-bowling consultant during the early stages of England’s home summer, including the drawn Test series against India. “We are thrilled to welcome Tim Southee back to the KKR family in this coaching role,” said Venky Mysore, KKR’s CEO.
“Tim’s extensive experience and technical prowess will be crucial in developing our bowling unit. His leadership style and composed demeanor make him an ideal mentor for our younger bowlers,” Mysore added.
