Dublin, Nov 10 (NationPress) The Irish cricket team has suffered a setback as opener Ross Adair is officially out of the forthcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh due to a bone stress injury in his knee, as confirmed by Cricket Ireland on Monday. Jordan Neill, who was initially selected in the two-match Test squad, will now remain with the team post-Tests to fill Adair's spot in the T20I lineup.
Since achieving a remarkable 58-ball century against South Africa late last year, Adair has faced multiple injury challenges in 2025. Despite these hurdles, he has showcased some of his form in this year's three T20Is, scoring 48 against the West Indies and 26 and 33 against England. His withdrawal allows him to focus on recovery ahead of the T20 World Cup scheduled for February 2026.
Jordan Neill, part of the 15-man Test squad for the impending tour, is now set to join the T20I squad. Neill made his international debut for Ireland in May this year, but an injury sustained in the field caused him to miss a significant portion of the home season.
Mark Rausa, Head of Medical Services and Physiotherapy for Cricket Ireland, stated, "It's unfortunate for Ross that just before departure, he experienced knee discomfort while running and conditioning. A precautionary scan revealed bone stress in his knee. Thus, the decision was taken to withdraw him from the Bangladesh series to allow for healing and to prepare for potential participation in the T20 World Cup in February."
Andrew White, National Men’s Selector, expressed, "It’s a pity to lose Ross right before the Bangladesh tour. He proved his worth at the top of the T20I order during his limited opportunities in 2025, and we were eager to see him face Bangladesh."
"We are keen to explore various combinations as we gear up for next year’s T20 World Cup. Jordan Neill will remain in the T20I squad to provide essential cover. We have had players capable of stepping up in the top order before – this flexibility allows us to adjust our batting lineup effectively. The inclusion of left-handed Ben Calitz in the middle order will bring the variety we’ve lacked in recent years. This tour offers a crucial platform for multiple players to adapt to diverse conditions and scenarios."
