New Delhi, Jan 9 (NationPress) Silver medallist at the Boxing World Cup Finals, Jadumani Singh, showcased his prowess by defeating the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold winner Amit Panghal in the semifinals of the men's 50-55kg division, paving the way for an exciting final showdown against Pawan Bartwal during the Elite Men and Women National Boxing Championships held at Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida, on Friday.

This event marks the inaugural occasion where both the men's and women's National Championships are conducted concurrently at a single location, featuring 600 boxers from all over the nation competing across 10 weight categories for each gender.

In their semifinal matches, Jadumani claimed a convincing 5:0 victory over Amit Panghal, while Pawan Bartwal achieved a similar outcome against Victor Singh from Manipur.

Additionally, world champion Minakshi (women's 45-48kg) from All India Police triumphed over Madhya Pradesh's Malika Mor with a 5:0 score, and two-time former World Champion Nikhat Zareen (48-51kg) secured her semifinal win with a 4:1 split decision against Kusum Baghel from Uttar Pradesh.

Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain also progressed to the final in the women's 70-75kg category by defeating Imroz Khan of Uttar Pradesh 5:0. Preeti (51-54kg) outperformed Uttarakhand's Aarti Dhariyal with a score of 5:0 to secure a spot in the finals.

In the men's category, Sachin (55-60kg) overcame Bhupinder Singh from Punjab, while Vivek from Rajasthan was no match for Hitesh Gulia (65-70kg).

Other finalists in their respective categories include Abhinash Jamwal (60-65kg), Sumit (70-75kg), and Narender (90+kg).

Earlier, the nation's elite boxers, including world champion Minakshi Hooda, two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen, and World Boxing Cup gold medallist Hitesh Gulia, advanced to the semifinals of the Elite Men and Women National Boxing Championships with impressive victories.

During the women's 45-48kg quarterfinals, Minakshi defeated Kashish Mehta from Punjab 5:0, while Nikhat (48-51kg) won against Lanchenbee Chanu Tongbram from Manipur by the same margin.

In the men’s 65-70kg quarterfinals, Hitesh beat Punjab's Tejaswi 5:0 to proceed to the semifinals. Pawan Bartwal (men's 50-55kg), Jadumani Singh (50-55kg), and Sachin (55-60kg) all achieved unanimous decisions during their semifinal matches.

Pawan triumphed over Tyson of Arunachal Pradesh, Jadumani defeated Nikhil from Punjab, and Sachin bested Karan from Uttar Pradesh. In the women's 51-54kg quarterfinals, Preeti overcame Harmeet Kaur Virk from Punjab 5:0, while Sakshi edged past Poonam of RSPB with a score of 4:1.
