Nanjing (China), Oct 18 (NationPress) Celebrated Indian archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam made history on Saturday by becoming the first Indian female compound archer to secure a medal at the Archery World Cup Final, taking home the bronze.
Seeded third, Jyothi delivered an impressive performance, defeating second seed Ella Gibson with a score of 150-145, hitting tens on all 15 arrows.
The Asian Games champion commenced her journey with a strong 143-140 victory over America’s Alexis Ruiz in the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, in the semifinals, she narrowly lost to world number one Andrea Becerra from Mexico, finishing 143-145 in a tightly contested match.
However, Jyothi made a remarkable comeback in the bronze medal match, scoring 15 consecutive 10s over five ends to overpower Gibson and conclude her campaign with excellence.
