Ranchi, Jan 14 (NationPress) Alexander Hendrickx netted the sole goal of the match as Vedanta Kalinga Lancers upheld their unbeaten streak in the Men’s Hockey India League (HIL), securing a 1-0 victory over Hyderabad Toofans at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astro Turf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi on Wednesday.

In the opening quarter, both teams were evenly matched, each making four circle entries. While Hyderabad Toofans enjoyed a greater share of possession, it was the Lancers who managed the only shot on target, creating chances through quick counterattacks. Liam Henderson had a golden opportunity to score early, but was thwarted by Jean-Paul Danneberg, leaving the score level at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw both teams ramping up their offensive efforts, each earning a penalty corner. Although the Toofans dominated possession with 12 circle entries to the Lancers' seven, it was the Lancers who came closest to scoring, with Henderson's powerful shot striking the post. The first half concluded with no goals despite an exciting display.

As the second half commenced, Hyderabad Toofans maintained control, seeking to penetrate the Lancers' defense. Against the flow of play, however, the Lancers struck first, with Hendrickx (40’) converting a penalty corner dragflick, marking his fifth goal of the season and giving his team the lead. With momentum on their side, the Vedanta Kalinga Lancers solidified their position, keeping possession and establishing a strong defensive stance as the third quarter drew to a close.

In the final quarter, the Lancers remained steadfast defensively while executing quick counter-attacks. Despite the Toofans holding the majority of possession, the Lancers were more effective, registering more shots and penalty corners. Ultimately, the Lancers secured the match comfortably, with the Toofans failing to generate a single shot on goal in the concluding fifteen minutes.
