Mumbai, Dec 9 (NationPress) Following a spectacular performance against South Africa in the Women's ODI World Cup final, Shafali Verma is back with the Indian squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka starting on December 21.
The selected 15-member team features G. Kamalini and Vaishnavi Sharma, both of whom showcased their skills in the Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup.
Smriti Mandhana has been appointed as Harmanpreet Kaur's vice-captain as Kaur leads the Women In Blue in this series against Sri Lanka.
The BCCI announced in a statement, “The Women's Selection Committee has finalized India’s squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka Women.”
This squad retains several members from the recent World Cup-winning team, including Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harleen Deol, Amanjot Kaur, Arundhati Reddy, Kranti Gaud, and Renuka Singh Thakur. The two wicketkeepers are Richa Ghosh and Kamalini.
The series kicks off in Visakhapatnam on December 21, with the second match scheduled for December 23. The action then moves to Thiruvananthapuram for the concluding matches, with the third T20I on December 26, the fourth on December 28, and the series finale on December 30. These venues will host exciting matches as India wraps up the year with back-to-back contests in the shortest format.
The five-match series will also serve as a platform for both teams to prepare for the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Following their historic triumph in the 50-over format, the Indian team now shifts its focus to the 20-over World Cup, set to occur in England in June 2026.
