Jaipur, Dec 2 (NationPress) In an electrifying display of athletic prowess, athletes from Chandigarh University, including Rahul in the men’s 20km race walk and Deepika in the women’s Javelin Throw, alongside Ruchir Mori from Swarnim Gujarat Sports University in the men’s 400m hurdles, and Pooja from Lovely Professional University in the women’s High Jump, shattered the KIUG Meet Record during the second day of the athletics events at the Khelo India University Games Rajasthan 2025, held at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

The fifth edition of KIUG 2025 is unfolding across seven cities in Rajasthan, featuring an impressive 4,448 athletes representing 222 universities competing in 23 medal disciplines. The Games are organized under the auspices of the Sports Authority of India in partnership with the Rajasthan State Sports Council and are being hosted by Poornima University.

In the morning session, Rahul dominated the 20km Race Walk, leading from the outset and finishing with a time of 1:25:43.00, breaking the previous record of 1:26:44.00 held by Akshdeep Singh of Punjabi University since 2022. Suraj Yadav from Jannayak Chandrashekhar University secured the silver with a time of 1:30:06.50, while two competitors were disqualified.

Later, Ruchir Mori of Swarnim Gujarat Sports University set a new KIUG record in the 400m hurdles, clocking 51.00 seconds, surpassing the prior record of 51.76 seconds held by Amarnath D of Rani Channamma. Although he was the sole runner in the event, the record stands, but he will not receive a gold medal.

Pooja then achieved a height of 1.77m to win the gold in the High Jump, exceeding the former KIUG record set by Gracena Merly by a metre. Khyati Mathur (1.71m) of Guru Kashi University took silver, and Giji George Stephen (1.68m) of Anna University claimed bronze.

Deepika also joined the record-breaking roster by throwing the javelin 55.53m to secure the gold medal, surpassing the previous record of 53.16m held by Jyoti of Chaudhary Devi Lal University.

In a remarkable performance, last edition's KIUG champions, Chandigarh University, secured 11 gold medals, including seven in Canoe & Kayaking, bringing their total gold medal count to 22. Lovely Professional University also gained two gold medals in athletics, solidifying their third position with a total of 23 gold medals.

At the Jagatpura Shooting Range, Surbhi Rao from Chandigarh University clinched the women’s 10m Air Pistol gold with a score of 238.9. Vani Kaushal from Manav Racha University took the silver with 237.6, while Lakshita from Lovely Professional University secured bronze with 216.8.

“I am thrilled to have won gold today, especially since this is my final participation in the University Games. Ending on a golden note is a dream come true,” Surbhi shared with SAI Media.

The men's hockey final is set to feature Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya against Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidhyapith, both having achieved identical victories in their semifinals.

Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya bested Bengaluru City University 2-0, while Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith triumphed over Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University with a score of 2-0.
