Kolkata, May 4 (NationPress) Kolkata Knight Riders' captain Ajinkya Rahane expressed his delight with his team's performance after securing a narrow victory against the Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens on Sunday.
The match was a nail-biter, with both teams separated by just one run after an intense 40 overs.
Rajasthan's captain Riyan Parag delivered an electrifying innings, scoring 95 runs off 45 balls, featuring eight sixes and six fours. However, he couldn't lead his team to victory, as they fell short by one run while chasing 22 runs in the final over.
In pursuit of 207, Rajasthan was well-placed at 52 runs needed off 30 balls, with Parag and Shubham Dubey at the crease. Yet, the shift in momentum occurred when Parag was dismissed in the 18th over. Dubey made a valiant effort to clinch the win but ultimately fell short, despite hitting two sixes and a four.
Earlier, Andre Russell provided a quick-fire half-century, and Angkrish Raghuvanshi contributed a solid 44 off 31 balls, enabling KKR to post a total of 206/4.
Rahane commented, "It was incredibly close, and I’m very pleased. Winning by one or two runs brings immense satisfaction. Gurbaz and Angkrish performed admirably, and Russell's finish was exceptional. Our strategy was to attack during the powerplay and stabilize until the 12th over. It’s not easy for a newcomer, so Angkrish and I focused on taking it deep."
He also emphasized the significance of solid fielding, stating, "It's vital; saving 10-12 runs is crucial. Taking a couple of good catches and executing a run-out can change the game."
With five victories from 11 matches, KKR has kept their playoff aspirations alive, moving up to sixth place in the points table. Their next challenge will be against Chennai Super Kings at Eden Gardens on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Royals will face CSK in a pivotal bottom-of-the-table showdown at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on May 12.
