New Delhi, July 8 (NationPress) Former Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli shared his excitement about being back at the Centre Court for the Wimbledon match, reminiscing about his initial visit to this legendary venue a decade ago in 2015.
The renowned Indian batsman and his actress spouse Anushka Sharma attended the event on Monday to watch the Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic compete in the fourth round.
"2015 was the first time I visited. I want to extend my gratitude for the warm welcome. It feels fantastic to be here again. Anushka and I came in 2015, which was our inaugural experience at this magnificent Centre Court. Experiencing the essence of Wimbledon was incredibly special," Kohli remarked to former tennis player Vijay Amritraj in a video shared by Star Sports on social platforms.
On Monday, Djokovic, after a slow start, triumphed over Alex de Minaur with a score of 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, marking his 16th quarter-final appearance in London.
Post-match, Kohli took to social media to express his joy over Djokovic's win, stating, "What a match. It was business as usual for the gladiator," along with a photo from the match on his Instagram stories. Djokovic, in response, thanked the cricketing icon, saying, "Thank you for your support."
Kohli, who concluded his T20 International career post the 2024 World Cup victory, also retired from Test cricket in May this year, ending a glorious 14-year journey that saw him play 123 Tests—68 as captain—scoring 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85.
