Former India captain and coach Anil Kumble has backed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to edge past Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2026 Eliminator on Wednesday, arguing that Hyderabad's greater squad depth and distribution of match-winners gives them a decisive advantage in the knockout tie at the PCA New International Stadium, Chandigarh.

Kumble's Assessment of the Two Squads

Analysing the contest, Kumble said Rajasthan's campaign rests on a dangerously narrow base. 'If you compare the two teams man for man, SRH have more match-winners. Rajasthan, on the other hand, relies heavily on a few individuals — Yashasvi Jaiswal, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, and Jofra Archer,' he said in an interview on Jio Hotstar. He added: 'If those three don't fire, their batting and bowling both look thin. That could be the difference in a knockout game.'

The assessment underlines a structural concern for Rajasthan — a side that has leaned on individual brilliance through the league phase rather than collective firepower.

The League-Stage Turning Point SRH Won't Forget

Kumble pointed to the earlier league encounter between the two sides as the moment SRH's season shifted. That match saw young pacers Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain make their IPL debuts, with both tearing through Rajasthan's top order. 'The game that Sunrisers Hyderabad would remember dearly is the one against Rajasthan Royals of the league phase, where Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain made their IPL debuts. He further elaborated: 'Before that game, they had a different playing combination. After bringing in those young bowlers, they found a winning formula. Hinge Over Harshal Patel for the Eliminator

Kumble suggested SRH could hand Praful Hinge another start at the expense of experienced pacer Harshal Patel in the playing XI. 'So I expect SRH might go with Hinge again in place of Harshal Patel for the eliminator. Hinge also dismissed Vaibhav Suryavanshi in his first game, which gives him a psychological edge going into the eliminator,' he said.
