Lucknow, May 20 (NationPress) The IPL 2025 match witnessed an intense showdown as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Digvesh Rathi and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter Abhishek Sharma faced penalties following a heated verbal exchange. Rathi has been fined 50 percent of his match fees for violating the IPL Code of Conduct. This incident marked his third Level 1 breach under Article 2.5 this season, resulting in a total of five demerit points and leading to a one-match suspension.
The official statement confirmed, "Digvesh Singh, Bowler, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), has been fined 50 percent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Monday."
This latest breach adds to previous infractions: one demerit point for a match against Punjab Kings on April 1, 2025, and two demerit points against Mumbai Indians on April 4, 2025. As a result, Rathi will miss LSG’s upcoming clash with Gujarat Titans on May 22, 2025, in Ahmedabad.
On the other hand, Abhishek Sharma has incurred a 25 percent fine on his match fees for a similar violation, having accumulated one demerit point for his first offence this season under Article 2.6.
During the 8th over of SRH's chase, after Rathi dismissed Sharma with a catch, an argument ensued following Rathi's signature notebook celebration. Umpires and LSG captain Rishabh Pant had to intervene to defuse the situation. Replays indicated that Rathi's gesture post-dismissal possibly sparked the confrontation.
