Paris, Feb 9 (NationPress) Nuno Mendes, the full-back for Paris Saint Germain, reflected on his recent contract extension, expressing that it holds significant meaning for him as the club feels like family. After progressing through the youth ranks at Sporting Clube de Portugal, Mendes made his move to Paris Saint-Germain at just 19 years old, initially joining on loan in the summer of 2021 before securing a permanent deal at the end of that season. This was a pivotal year where the Sintra-born defender showcased his capabilities.
"I am incredibly proud to extend my contract with Paris Saint-Germain. Since my arrival, I have felt very comfortable at the club. I am thrilled to continue my journey here.
"This extension is very important to me, as PSG is a prestigious club with a rich history and many legendary players. I feel honored to contribute to the legacy of this incredible team. PSG is truly special; it feels like a family, and my teammates share this sentiment.
"When I first arrived at the age of 18, I was warmly welcomed. It was a different experience for me, especially moving to a new country. I am very thankful for everything,” Mendes shared with PSG TV.
Recently, Paris Saint-Germain took substantial steps to secure the future of the club by extending contracts for first-team head coach Luis Enrique until 2027, along with players Achraf Hakimi, Vitinha, and Nuno Mendes, all signing extensions until 2029. Yoram Zague also renewed his contract until 2028, while Ibrahim Mbaye and Naoufel El Hannach signed their first professional contracts, binding them to the club until 2027.
Having made 47 appearances for Sporting, Mendes continued his impressive form with Les Parisiens, significantly contributing to the club’s tenth Ligue 1 title victory. He repeated this success in the following two seasons, along with winning the Coupe de France in 2024 and two Trophees de Champions in 2022 and 2024, reaching the 100-game mark during the team's Trophee des Champions win in January 2025.
His remarkable consistency earned him a spot in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year in both 2022 and 2023, where he was recognized as the league’s Young Player of the Year. Currently, he holds an impressive record of four goals and 14 assists in 107 matches for Paris Saint-Germain.
