Kusal Mendis will captain Sri Lanka in both the ODI and T20I series during the upcoming white-ball tour of England, the country's cricket board announced on 2 September. The six-match tour — comprising three T20Is and three ODIs — gets underway on 15 September, with Charith Asalanka named vice-captain across both formats.

Key Selections and Squad Composition

Pathum Nissanka, who has been in strong ODI form in recent months, is expected to anchor the top of the order and features in both squads. He is joined in the batting unit by Kamil Mishara, Kamindu Mendis, Janith Liyanage, and Pavan Rathnayake, adding depth across the middle order.

Experienced all-rounders Dasun Shanaka, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Dunith Wellalage provide Sri Lanka with multiple options in English conditions. Notably, Shanaka has earned a recall to the ODI squad while retaining his place in the T20I side — a significant selection decision as Sri Lanka build towards the 2027 ODI World Cup.

ODI Bowling Attack

The 50-over bowling unit features Maheesh Theekshana, Sachindu Colombage, Dushmantha Chameera, Eshan Malinga, Asitha Fernando, and Dilshan Madushanka. Sri Lanka will be targeting their first bilateral series victory over England in 12 years — a milestone that lends the tour added competitive weight.

The tour opens with the first T20I in Southampton on 15 September, followed by matches in Cardiff on 17 September and Manchester on 19 September.
