Harare, Sep 7 (NationPress) An extraordinary unbeaten 73 runs off 43 deliveries from Kamil Mishara propelled Sri Lanka to a 2-1 T20I series victory over Zimbabwe, culminating in an impressive eight-wicket win during their final match of the tour at the Harare Sports Club on Sunday.
Facing a challenging target of 192, Sri Lanka's middle order finally found their rhythm, building on a solid 50-run partnership between Pathum Nissanka (33) and Kusal Mendis (30). Just when the chase appeared manageable, Mendis fell to Brad Evans, and Sikandar Raza took out Nissanka.
However, the young sensation Mishara dazzled with his performance, striking six fours and two sixes in his unbeaten innings. Kusal Perera, making a comeback after being sidelined for the second match, remained not out on 46 off 26 balls as they guided the team to victory with 14 balls to spare.
Earlier, Zimbabwe had set a seemingly challenging total of 191/8, thanks to a well-crafted fifty from Tadiwanashe Marumani and several valuable contributions throughout their batting lineup.
The hosts worked hard at the crease and ran briskly between wickets. They also benefited from Sri Lanka’s bowlers, excluding Dushan Hemantha and Dushmantha Chameera, who struggled to find success, while the visitors displayed some uncharacteristic fielding errors, leading to additional runs for Zimbabwe.
This series win offers Sri Lanka a much-needed boost ahead of the Men’s T20 Asia Cup, starting on September 9 in the UAE. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe is set to compete against Namibia in the qualifiers.
Brief scores: Zimbabwe 191/8 (Tadiwanashe Marumani 51, Sikandar Raza 28; Dushan Hemantha 3-38, Dushmantha Chameera 2-33) lost to Sri Lanka 193/2 in 17.4 overs (Kamil Mishara 73 not out, Kusal Perera 46 not out; Brad Evans 1-28, Sikandar Raza 1-29) by eight wickets
