Kolkata, Jan 26 (NationPress) Mohun Bagan Super Giant is set to welcome Bengaluru FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (VYBK) on Monday.

Currently, Mohun Bagan is leading the table, having triumphed in their last seven home matches, and they aim to continue this impressive streak. With 37 points accumulated from 17 games, they have achieved 11 wins and four draws, including three victories and two draws in their last five encounters.

Bengaluru FC, conversely, is facing a challenging phase, remaining winless in their last four matches (D1 L3). They hold the third position in the league with 28 points from 17 matches, which includes eight wins and four draws. The Blues find themselves nine points behind the Mariners and see this match as a crucial opportunity to narrow that gap.

Mohun Bagan has scored in every one of their last 16 home games, while Bengaluru FC has conceded goals in their past 12 matches, marking their longest such streak in the ISL. This comes after they managed five consecutive clean sheets to start their season.

Despite their current struggles, the Blues have a chance to make history by achieving their first league double over the Mariners, having previously secured a 3-0 victory in their earlier encounter this season.

The Mariners are known for their strong aerial game, having scored eight headed goals this season, the highest in the league, while allowing just one. Bengaluru FC has also displayed aerial strength, with Sunil Chhetri netting five headed goals, just one shy of the record for a single season (held by Petar Sliskovic with 6 in 2022-23).

In their ten encounters in the ISL, Mohun Bagan Super Giant has emerged victorious in six matches, while Bengaluru FC has won twice, with two matches ending in draws.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant's head coach Jose Molina acknowledged the tough competition for the top spot.

“We will keep fighting. It was clear that winning the League Shield would not be easy. It never is. We still have some points to make up compared to the second-placed team,” Molina stated.

Bengaluru FC’s head coach Gerard Zaragoza expressed optimism for a thrilling match ahead.

“This is a significant match. It’s a battle of talented players. I am hopeful we can deliver a spectacular game for all,” he remarked.
