Mumbai, Jan 14 (NationPress) The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) announced on Wednesday its plan to implement a central contracts system for its players. This initiative is designed to deliver structured support and financial stability for the players.
This decision follows a four-year delay since the association initially consented to a graded contract system and forwarded it to the Cricket Improvement Committee for further details, but it has not been enacted until now.
“The Apex Council has endorsed central contracts for players to ensure long-term development and welfare, affirming its commitment to supporting emerging talent with structured financial backing,” the MCA Apex Council stated.
In addition, MCA revealed plans to launch a T20 scouting tournament aimed at serving as a talent pipeline for the Mumbai T20 League, along with an inter-collegiate tournament named after former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar.
“The Inter-College Tournament will honor Dilip Vengsarkar, highlighting the values of excellence, leadership, and the rich legacy of Mumbai cricket. It will be an essential platform for fostering young talent at the collegiate level.
“To align with the changing dynamics of modern cricket, a T20 tournament will be organized as a dedicated scouting venue for the T20 Mumbai League, establishing a clear, merit-based pathway for young players to ascend to elite levels,” the MCA Apex Council elaborated.
President Ajinkya Naik stated that these progressive decisions aim to cultivate a robust, inclusive, and sustainable cricketing environment in Mumbai. "Our vision is to create a strong pathway from college cricket to the highest echelons of the game. Naming the Inter-College Tournament after Dilip Vengsarkar reflects the aspirations of excellence and leadership we want young cricketers to embrace.
“Central contracts represent a significant step toward empowering players with stability and confidence, while the T20 scouting tournament will help Mumbai in continuously identifying and nurturing talent that suits the future of the game," he added.
