National Dope Testing Laboratory Receives WADA Endorsement for Athlete Biological Passport Management

New Delhi, Dec 12 (NationPress) The National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL) in New Delhi has been granted the prestigious approval by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to take charge of the Athlete Biological Passport (ABP). This important endorsement was received on December 6, as highlighted in a statement released by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports on Thursday.

The NDTL will function as a WADA-endorsed Athlete Passport Management Unit (APMU) in the region, tasked with monitoring the Athlete Biological Passport and integrating it into a comprehensive anti-doping framework.

The Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) serves as a cutting-edge anti-doping mechanism that tracks an athlete's biological markers over time. By scrutinizing fluctuations in indicators like blood and steroid profiles, the ABP plays a crucial role in ensuring fairness in sports and safeguarding clean athletes, according to the statement.

This achievement is a landmark moment for India in enhancing its anti-doping efforts. With this endorsement, India joins a select group of 17 APMUs that have received WADA's approval globally. The APMU in India will support not only the country but also anti-doping bodies in neighboring regions, as stated by the Ministry through the Press Information Bureau.

The recognition is a source of immense pride for India and the NDTL in New Delhi. This acknowledgment will pave new paths and bolster the credibility of NDTL as a significant player in the global fight against doping.
