Patna, March 11 (NationPress) Nishchay, a 16-year-old thrower from Haryana, emerged as a key figure on the second day of the 20th National Youth Athletics Championships taking place at the Patliputra Sports Complex here on Tuesday.
Nishchay's impressive gold medal-winning throw in the shot put reached 18.93m, significantly surpassing his closest competitor. N. Ramesh, the chief junior athletics coach, stated, “He (Nishchay) has the potential to become a remarkable thrower in the future,” as reported by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI).
Akhand Pratap Singh from Uttar Pradesh secured the silver medal with a throw of 17.97m, while Harpratap Singh from Punjab claimed bronze with a throw of 17.40m.
Nishchay expressed his excitement about surpassing the 60m mark in the discus throw with a distance of 62.14m, but showed some disappointment for not reaching the 19m mark in the shot put. “My goal in the shot put was to achieve my personal best of over 19m, but I fell short,” shared the promising thrower from Haryana.
Abhinav Sreeram of Kerala ruled the boys' heptathlon event with a total of 4731 points. Rahul Jakhar from Gujarat finished in second place with 4672 points, while Akash Ashvini from Bihar took third with 4550 points.
In the girls' events, Lakshita Mahlawat of Rajasthan triumphed in the discus throw with a distance of 40.77 metres. Oshin from Haryana finished second with 40.19m, and Tejaswini C from Karnataka ended in third with a throw of 37.76m.
