Dubai, Jan 25 (NationPress) New Zealand has successfully secured a direct qualification for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 following Bangladesh's defeat in their final match of the ICC Women’s Championship series against the West Indies in Basseterre on Friday.

New Zealand clinched the direct spot by finishing above Bangladesh based on their superior win tally (nine victories compared to Bangladesh’s eight) after both teams concluded the tournament with 21 points in the 10-team competition, where each team participated in eight three-match series—four at home and four away.

The hosts India and the five leading teams have confirmed their direct qualification, while the bottom four will have the opportunity to compete in a Qualifier.

Australia topped the championship standings with 39 points, followed closely by India with 37. Other teams securing direct entry to the World Cup include England (32), South Africa (25), and Sri Lanka (22).

Bangladesh (21), West Indies (18), Pakistan (17), and Ireland (8) will be joined by Scotland and Thailand, the other two highest-ranked teams as of October 31, 2024, in the World Cup Qualifier. The specifics of the Qualifier will be announced soon, with two spots available.

India will host the Women's ODI World Cup for the fifth time in 2025, marking its first global women's tournament since 2016 when the T20 World Cup coincided with the men's event. The 2025 edition is expected to mirror the 2022 tournament, featuring eight teams competing in a total of 31 matches.
