Pune, Oct 29 (NationPress) Shaurya Bhattacharya delivered a remarkable performance with a tournament-best score of eight-under 63, while Yuvraj Sandhu contributed with a solid four-under 67 on the second day of The Poona Club Open 2025, a prestigious INR 1 crore event held at the Poona Club Golf Course in Pune on Thursday.

The Delhi-based Shaurya (69-63), who previously claimed victory on the PGTI circuit this season, surged 13 positions from his overnight tied 14th place. Meanwhile, Chandigarh's Yuvraj (65-67), currently leading the PGTI Order of Merit, improved to first from his overnight second position. Mohd Azhar from Hyderabad (64-70), who led after the first round, fell to third with a total of eight-under 134.

The PGTI continues to enhance professional golf in India, backed by esteemed partners including Rolex, Amul, IndusInd Bank, Victorious Choice, Campa, Amrutanjan Electro Plus, Golf Plus Monthly, and Golf Design India.

The cut line was set at two-over 144, with fifty-seven professionals making the cut.

Defending champion Veer Ahlawat, who topped the PGTI Order of Merit in 2024, concluded the day tied for eighth at six-under 136. Local talent Akshay Damale was the highest-ranked among Pune professionals, finishing tied for 24th at one-under 141.

Currently ranked fourth in the PGTI, Shaurya Bhattacharya recorded 10 birdies, including five from distances between 10 to 17 feet, alongside two bogeys.

Shaurya remarked, “I felt my driving was strong, keeping the ball on fairways. Many Par-4s here are reachable, and I found myself close to the greens on most of them, allowing for effective chip-putts. Most of my putts were within 10 feet, and my putting was exceptional.”

“I had a solid performance last year, securing a top-15 finish, and I’ve enjoyed a consistent second half of the season as well, coming close to victories several times. I believe my game is improving,” he added.

After encountering three bogeys in his first six holes, Yuvraj Sandhu rebounded impressively, securing seven birdies starting from the seventh hole.

“It took a while for me to get settled on the course today, and those early bogeys motivated me. I’m pleased with how the back nine unfolded. I’ll strive for a stronger start in rounds two and three while capitalizing on the back-nine opportunities,” Yuvraj stated.

“The seventh hole, where I achieved my first birdie, was pivotal. I nearly chipped in for an eagle there. After that, I felt comfortable off the tee, and my round regained momentum,” he concluded.
