'Is the Rush for Passes a Sweet Challenge?' PWL CEO Reflects on League Triumph
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Noida, Jan 30 (NationPress) The CEO of the Pro Wrestling League (PWL), Akhil Gupta, expressed that the prolonged break since the league's previous edition has significantly increased fan enthusiasm, as evidenced by the remarkable attendance at the events.
The PWL 2026 commenced on January 15, with the grand finale set for February 1, marking the league's comeback after a six-year gap.
“We consider it a great fortune to see such a large turnout at the gates. The excitement is palpable, and there's a high demand for passes at the entrance. This showcases the affection of the public and the associated challenges, which we view as a delightful challenge,” stated Akhil Gupta in an interview with IANS.
Regarding the league's long-term aspirations, Gupta noted that the PWL aims to promote wrestling in India and broaden its reach beyond a singular location.
“Our objective is to develop the sport and extend the league into various cities. We have participants from over 17 countries. While many travel to the US for education, we have players coming from there to compete. It’s been an emotional experience. Susaki, who has never participated in a private league before, expressed her desire to return to India yearly after her experience with PWL. The feedback from players and coaches has been overwhelmingly positive.”
On the collaboration with the Wrestling Federation of India, Gupta highlighted the strong operational synergy between the PWL and the Federation.
“The partnership and communication between our organization and the WFI are incredibly robust and well-coordinated. Certain aspects should remain surprises, gradually revealed to the public. We are witnessing fantastic viewership responses, and I can assure you that our decisions will exceed expectations.”
Previously, WFI chief Sanjay Singh commented on future expansion plans, stating that the league will extend to major cities in its following edition, as logistical constraints limited this season to a single venue.
“The next season of PWL will take place across various major cities. This season was confined to Noida Stadium due to time limitations, but everyone will have a chance to experience the thrill next time.”
