Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul has praised teammate Abishek Porel as the defining face of a fearless new generation of Indian batters, crediting the youngster's ability to play attacking strokes to all parts of the ground from the very first ball — even under intense match pressure.

The praise followed a standout performance by Porel in Delhi Capitals' IPL 2026 fixture at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday. The young wicketkeeper-batter struck 51 off 31 balls, combining with Rahul — who contributed 56 — in a match-defining 105-run partnership. The Axar Patel-led side successfully chased down Rajasthan Royals' target of 194, winning by five wickets to keep their playoffs hopes alive.

What Rahul said about Porel

Speaking on JioStar, Rahul was emphatic in his assessment. 'It's his ability to hit sixes and access all parts of the ground. The new guys who are coming in are all 360-degree batters. Abishek Porel can hit you over long-on for a six off the first ball, or he can scoop you over fine leg on the very first delivery. That kind of range is unusual, even among experienced players,' he said.

Rahul underlined that execution under pressure is what separates Porel from the rest. 'One thing is to think about doing it. But the special thing about the new boys, especially Abishek Porel, is that they can execute those shots in high-pressure games against good bowlers and strong teams. He doesn't need time to settle. He doesn't fear the situation. He just sees the ball and goes after it,' Rahul added. Porel, who has been with Delhi Capitals since 2023, has steadily grown into one of the side's most reliable batting assets.

Rahul spots another prodigy: Sahil Parakh

Rahul also turned the spotlight on another emerging talent — left-handed batter Sahil Parakh, who scored seven in Sunday's game but has clearly left a deeper impression on the senior pro. Rahul recalled first noticing Parakh through a training clip posted by the franchise from a camp in Hyderabad.

'I saw a video Delhi Capitals posted from a training session in Hyderabad. It was just a minute of him hitting six after six. I thought, who is this guy? I knew we had picked a player named Sahil, and I had seen some clips of him in the Maharashtra League. But watching him hit those sixes, it really grabbed my attention,' Rahul said.

He went on to describe Parakh's composure in a finishing role — a position the youngster was not originally groomed for. 'He is naturally a top-order batter, but in one game, he was sent in at five or six and had to finish the innings. He scored 20 runs in the final over. The composure, the skill, and the ability to take on any bowler, pace or spin, were striking,' Rahul noted.

A generation redefining Indian batting

Rahul drew a broader pattern, placing Porel and Parakh alongside peers such as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre — all products of the same Under-19 pipeline — as evidence of a structural shift in how young Indian batters approach the game. 'All credit goes to their training and how well prepared they are for such a big competition. That kind of mindset is rare in a young player,' he said. With the playoffs race tightening, Delhi Capitals will be counting on this new wave of talent to carry them through the business end of IPL 2026.
