New Delhi, June 17 (NationPress) Ravi Shastri, the former head coach of India, has articulated his vision for what constitutes India’s optimal starting XI for the forthcoming five-Test series against England, commencing on June 20 at the Headingley Cricket Ground. During his discussion with Crystal Arnold on The ICC Review, Shastri proposed a left-right batting combination at the top for the initial Test in Leeds, with a debutant slated to bat at first drop.
“I envision (Yashasvi) Jaiswal opening alongside KL Rahul, as I believe this is a crucial tour for him. He stands out as the most experienced batsman,” Shastri expressed as he outlined his lineup.
“He opened during India’s previous tour of England, scored a century, and had a successful outing. Hence, I would prefer him to commence the innings. At number three, I would select the promising youngster, Sai Sudarshan. His performance has been quite impressive, and this tour will provide him with valuable experience.”
Shastri’s top three are complemented by the new Test captain at No.4, Shubman Gill, who is stepping into this role 32 matches into his international red-ball career.
