Mumbai, Nov 25 (NationPress) Former Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma, who famously lifted the Men's T20 World Cup trophy in 2024, has been appointed as the tournament ambassador for the upcoming 2026 edition, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

This role marks a significant evolution in Sharma's career, as he transitions from player to ambassador. His record in T20 internationals is remarkable, finishing with 4231 runs at an average of 32.01 and an impressive strike rate of nearly 141.

Having debuted as a promising 20-year-old in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, Rohit grew into the pivotal leader who orchestrated India’s much-anticipated victory in 2024, cementing his legacy in T20 history.

ICC chairman Jay Shah announced Rohit’s ambassadorship, stating, "I am privileged to announce that @ImRo45 is the tournament ambassador for the upcoming @T20WorldCup in India & Sri Lanka. There is no better representative than the winning captain of the 2024 T20 World Cup, who has participated in all nine editions so far," he shared on Instagram.

Rohit's early international career was marked by an audacious spirit. In the 2007 tournament, he scored 88 runs without being dismissed, contributing crucially with 30* against Pakistan in the final and an unbeaten 50 against South Africa in the Super Eights, heralding his bright future.

Fast forward to 2024, he led a team yearning for redemption and an ICC title that had been elusive for over a decade. Rohit scored 257 runs at a strike rate of 156.70, often giving India a competitive edge during the PowerPlay.

One of his standout performances was a blistering 92 off 41 balls against Australia in the Super Eights, showcasing his dominance. His half-century against England in the semi-finals propelled India towards glory. Upon clinching the trophy, Rohit exited T20Is on a high note, leaving a significant legacy.
