New Delhi, Aug 6 (NationPress) The iconic Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar expressed his admiration for Mohammed Siraj's approach, claiming that the fast bowler is not given the recognition he truly merits. On the fifth day of the match at The Oval, Siraj delivered an impressive performance, securing 5 wickets for 104 runs as India tied the five-match series 2-2 with a narrow six-run victory over England.
England struggled against Siraj’s precision as he dismantled their lower order, achieving a remarkable feat of three wickets for just nine runs in 25 balls on the final day. Siraj fittingly concluded the match for India by toppling Gus Atkinson's off-stump, earning his place in the esteemed history of Indian cricket.
“It’s unbelievable. His approach is superb. I adore his attitude. The energy he brings is remarkable. For a fast bowler to be so relentless, no batsman would enjoy facing him. Even on the last day, I heard commentators noting he bowled around 90mph (145kph) after delivering more than 1,000 balls in the series. This exemplifies his bravery and immense heart,” Tendulkar shared in a video on his Reddit account.
In addition, Siraj emerged as the top wicket-taker of the series, claiming 23 wickets at an average of 32.43 while bowling an astounding 1,113 deliveries. “His start on the final day was outstanding, and he has consistently played a pivotal role whenever we needed him to make that decisive impact. He has shown this ability repeatedly, especially in this series. The way he took those wickets proves he doesn’t receive the recognition he truly deserves,” Tendulkar remarked.
In a series where Jasprit Bumrah played only three matches due to workload management following a back injury sustained in the Sydney Test against Australia earlier this year, Siraj stood out as the premier bowler. Bumrah took 14 wickets across three matches, including two five-wicket hauls.
Tendulkar also defended Bumrah, stating that the matches he missed were merely coincidental. “People are discussing various points – like we won the Tests he didn’t play in. To me, that’s just coincidence, honestly.”
“Bumrah began remarkably, taking five wickets in the first Test. Although he missed the second Test, he took 5 wickets in both the third and fourth innings at Lord’s. So, in the three Tests he played, he achieved two five-wicket hauls.”
“Bumrah’s quality is extraordinary. It’s incredible what he has achieved so far. He has undoubtedly been a consistent performer, and I would rank him among the very best,” Tendulkar concluded.
