New Delhi, Dec 1 (NationPress) The Ministry of Railways of the Government of India has granted an out-of-turn promotion to Indian cricketer Sneh Rana in acknowledgment of her remarkable performance during India’s victory in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
India celebrated their first World Cup title last month, defeating South Africa by 52 runs at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. This victory signifies a momentous achievement in Indian cricket history, as the Women in Blue secured their inaugural ICC title across all formats.
Almost all members of the victorious team were honored with various accolades, and now Rana has received a promotion from the Railways.
An official communication from the Railway Board to Northern Railway states that Rana has been promoted to the Group ‘B’ Gazetted role of Officer on Special Duty (Sports) in Level 8 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix. This promotion is part of the Out-of-Turn Promotion (OTP) scheme, which recognizes outstanding sporting accomplishments.
The Railway Board has instructed Northern Railway to initiate the necessary steps to implement this promotion and assign Rana to the OSD (Sports) position or another appropriate Group ‘B’ role.
The directive was signed by the Director of Establishment (Sports) and the Secretary of the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB), with copies also dispatched to the National Railway Sports Association and the all-rounder herself.
Rana took to X to share the promotion order, expressing her gratitude: “Heartfelt thanks to @RailMinIndia for acknowledging my efforts and promoting me to the position of 'Officer on Special Duty (Sports)'. The Railways is the best organization for sportspeople, constantly motivating us to perform at our peak. Much appreciated!”
Recently, Rana was acquired by the Delhi Capitals during the Women’s Premier League 2025 auction, following her tenure with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. She will now join her Indian teammates Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma in the colors of DC.
