Mumbai, Sep 13 (NationPress) The former President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and ex-captain of the Indian cricket team, Sourav Ganguly, alongside former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh, has been officially listed in the Draft Electoral Roll in anticipation of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the national cricket governing body, where a new governing body will be elected.
Ganguly is recognized as a representative for the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), a role he has previously held, including that of BCCI President. Interestingly, Harbhajan Singh is noted as a representative for the Punjab Cricket Association. Harbhajan also serves as a Rajya Sabha Member from Punjab.
In addition to Bengal and Punjab, other regions such as Saurashtra (Jaydev Niranjan Shah), Jammu & Kashmir (Mithun Manhas), and Karnataka (Raghuram Bhatt) have also nominated former players to represent them at the AGM, scheduled to take place at the BCCI Headquarters in Mumbai on September 28.
According to A.K. Joti, the Electoral Officer for the BCCI General Elections - 2025, the Draft Electoral Roll lists representatives based on communications from Full Members of the BCCI and has been compiled after verifying the completeness of the records as specified in the Electoral Officer’s Notice of Election Schedule.
The listing of Ganguly and Harbhajan in the Draft Electoral Rolls, along with the current IPL Chairman, and BCCI Secretary, Treasurer, and Joint Secretary, enables them to be nominated or contest for any positions in the upcoming BCCI elections of 2025.
There are ongoing discussions regarding a former Indian cricketer being considered for the President's position, with reports suggesting that Sachin Tendulkar has been proposed, though he has denied such claims.
Being included in the Draft Electoral Roll is a significant first step for Ganguly and Harbhajan in their quest to secure roles as office-bearers within the BCCI.
Objections regarding the entries in the Draft Electoral Roll can be submitted via e-mail to electoral.officer@bcci.tv between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM on September 14 and 15. The final Electoral Roll will be compiled after considering any objections.
The notification also outlines representatives from all 34 affiliated Full Members of the BCCI who are eligible to contest and vote in the upcoming elections.
