Chennai, Feb 26 (NationPress) India’s skipper, Suryakumar Yadav, emphasized that insights from the team’s video analyst provided a significant boost, enabling the squad to reset and tackle their recent T20 World Cup match with enhanced confidence. This was clearly reflected in their impressive 72-run victory over Zimbabwe during a pivotal Super Eights encounter at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Thursday.

Abhishek Sharma and Hardik Pandya spearheaded a dominant batting display, both scoring rapid half-centuries, which helped India achieve a remarkable total of 256/4—their highest score in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. This performance set the stage for their upcoming face-off against West Indies in Kolkata, a match that is crucial for advancing in the tournament.

“We aimed to move on from past performances. We didn’t dwell on our previous matches in the league or our last game in Ahmedabad. Our video analyst prepared a presentation for all players, highlighting our strengths over the past year,” Suryakumar noted during the post-match presentation.

“We drew a lot of positivity from that and came in with a clear mindset. With contributions from the entire batting lineup down to number seven, I believe our performance had very few shortcomings,” he added.

However, Suryakumar also pointed out areas needing improvement in their bowling. “Honestly, we could have been a bit more precise with our bowling. Nonetheless, a win is a win, and we will build on this moving forward. We’ll definitely need to tighten a few aspects before facing the West Indies,” he mentioned.

He acknowledged Zimbabwe’s batting strategy despite the unfavorable outcome for them. “I don’t wish to downplay the Zimbabwean batters' efforts. They played exceptionally well. The pitch was favorable, but their approach—taking their time during the powerplay and then accelerating—was commendable,” he stated.

“They deserve credit. From a bowling perspective, we could have made smarter choices at critical times. During such matches, we need to be bold with our decisions. There’s no alternative to a positive approach,” he asserted.

Suryakumar concluded that the team intends to unwind before concentrating on the significant match in Kolkata. “Once we arrive in Kolkata, we’ll strategize thoroughly for that game. For now, we’re focused on taking a break and relaxing,” he said.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya, who was awarded Player of the Match, expressed satisfaction with his innings: “I’m quite pleased. Scoring a 50 off 23 balls is great, but it also required me to reevaluate the situation. Initially, I felt I was trying too hard to hit the ball.”

“During the game, I realized that I could time the ball better and hit sixes effectively. It was a good match to regain my rhythm, as I had struggled to perform in a couple of previous games. So, I feel satisfied,” he added.

When asked about following the earlier match between South Africa and West Indies, Pandya replied, “Absolutely. We were all keeping tabs. Now, it’s about playing solid cricket, trusting our skills, managing the pressure, and ensuring we present our best performance. So we were aware of that, but once our game was over, we concentrated on our own performance.”

Regarding his bowling, Pandya said, “I feel good about it. I enjoy bowling with the new ball because it swings. I have a knack for inswing and outswing, which I find enjoyable. It also provides me the chance to take wickets and poses a challenge to the batters. I’m satisfied with my performance and still have to bowl one more over, which I plan to do after this.”
