Hampshire, June 18 (NationPress) The promising young Indian cricketer Tilak Varma has signed on with Hampshire to participate in four matches of the County Championship.
The 22-year-old from Hyderabad will be available for the next four fixtures in the Rothesay County Championship, commencing with an away match against Essex.
Varma has represented India on 29 occasions, with 25 of those in T20I formats, amassing a total of 749 runs that includes two centuries—both achieved in consecutive games against South Africa in November 2024—and three half-centuries, highlighted by a score of 72* against England earlier this year.
More renowned for his performances in T20 cricket and the IPL, he made his debut in the short-format in 2019 before being picked up by Mumbai Indians for the 2022 IPL season.
Since joining, Varma has accumulated nearly 1500 runs over 54 matches, including eight fifties, boasting an average of 37.47 and a strike rate of 144.41. As of June 2025, he holds the second-highest average for any men's player in IT20 cricket at 49.93, the highest among all ICC full members.
