Nottingham, June 9 (NationPress) The head coach of England, Thomas Tuchel, expressed his impatience and hopes that the team will quickly adapt to his tactical approach during the friendly match against Senegal.
In a previous FIFA World Cup qualifier, England managed a narrow 1-0 victory over Andorra, which raised questions about the team's offensive capabilities and whether the German coach's philosophy aligns with the squad's strengths.
Tuchel indicated that he plans to grant players greater freedom during the upcoming match against Senegal.
"I am quite impatient, and while that may not always be favorable, it drives me to expect a lot from myself and the players whenever we enter a stadium, regardless of how thrilling the match may seem, especially after a season filled with title challenges and Champions League aspirations.
"Once I step onto the pitch, see the well-maintained grass, and feel the presence of 7,000 fans, I have high expectations for what we can achieve," Tuchel noted in the pre-game briefing.
He also confirmed that Bukayo Saka will be starting against Senegal. The Arsenal winger had missed the initial international break under Tuchel due to injury and was sidelined for the Andorra fixture after sustaining a knock. Tuchel is eager to see this talented player return to action.
"I am genuinely excited to see him back, especially since he worked diligently to recover from his injury. Although he experienced minor discomfort in his last game, which concerned me, he managed to complete a full training session with us and participated in parts of Thursday and Friday’s sessions.
"Ultimately, we opted to be cautious and not risk his health. However, he appeared happy and was smiling during training yesterday. He will be starting tomorrow as he is crucial for our team," Tuchel emphasized.
Saka, who joined Tuchel at the press conference, praised the coach's style, describing him as intense on the field but relaxed off it.
"I prefer not to make comparisons, but I can say that Thomas has been quite demanding and intense during our training sessions while maintaining a relaxed atmosphere off the pitch," Saka shared.
"He’s a great person who allows us to enjoy the game and fosters a positive environment for all players," he added.
