New Delhi, Jan 16 (NationPress) Former Australia women’s wicketkeeper-batter Julia Price stated that the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup represents a significant milestone for women's cricket, emphasizing that this event provides a valuable platform for the emergence of future stars in the sport.

With sixteen teams competing in a total of 41 matches over a span of 15 days from January 18 to February 2, the tournament promises exciting action. The opening day will see England clash with Ireland in Johor, while Pakistan is set to face the USA in Group B.

Samoa will take on Nigeria, and New Zealand will challenge South Africa in Group C at Sarawak. In Group D, Australia will compete against Scotland, while Bangladesh will go up against Nepal at UKM YSD Oval in Selangor.

“The U19 Women’s T20 World Cup is a transformative event for women's cricket—it's an excellent learning opportunity for players and a chance for fans to witness the next generation of talent. The inaugural edition in South Africa was a remarkable success, and I anticipate more thrilling cricket in Malaysia. I look forward to joining the commentary team and being part of this exciting journey,” Julia remarked in an ICC statement on Thursday.

As the defending champions, India enters the tournament after winning the first edition in 2023 held in South Africa. “I’m delighted to return as a commentator for the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, alongside familiar faces from last year,” she added.

“My experience in South Africa was fantastic, and I expect another exhilarating tournament in Malaysia. My advice to players is to seize every moment—this is an ideal platform to experience international cricket and develop their skills,” remarked former Pakistan cricketer Marina Iqbal.

In India, JioStar will broadcast every match live through their digital platforms, with the semi-finals and final available on Star Sports 2. The ICC also announced the introduction of iHawk, an advanced lightweight ball-tracking system starting from the Super 6 stage.

This innovative technology involves body-mounted mini cameras on umpires, along with other high-frame-rate cameras, to generate real-time ball-tracking data that will be visually represented live on-air, enhancing the viewer experience. Notably, this technology will not influence umpire decision-making.

“I’m excited to commentate at the second edition of the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, a platform to discover and showcase outstanding young talent globally. This is a unique chance to present future stars to audiences around the world.

“I have observed rapid changes in the landscape of women’s cricket over the past few years, and I am looking forward to this edition. I wish all players the best and hope they embrace every moment on the field. This is their time!” concluded former West Indies cricketer Stacy-Ann King.
