United Cup: Boulter Secures 1-0 Advantage for Britain Against Argentina

Sydney, Dec 30 (NationPress) Katie Boulter claimed a victory in Britain’s first match of the United Cup, triumphing over Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska with a score of 6-2, 6-3, thereby securing a 1-0 lead in the Group F contest on Monday.

Boulter defeated the 100th-ranked Podoroska in their inaugural meeting, lasting one hour and 26 minutes at the Ken Rosewall Arena. The British No. 1, Boulter, has recently completed her first Top 50 season, having clinched two WTA titles in 2024.

In Monday’s opening set, Boulter unleashed nine forehand winners and successfully converted three out of her nine break points, with the set concluding on a double fault from Podoroska.

Podoroska, a semi-finalist at the 2020 Roland Garros, attempted to regain her footing in the second set, but Boulter persevered through a lengthy 12-minute hold for a 3-0 lead and cruised to victory from that point onward.

"It’s never easy to start the year with the first match, especially against an opponent who keeps the ball in play and makes you work hard. She had already played a match, so I knew I had to sharpen my game quickly. I’m pleased to have performed well today," Boulter stated as reported by the United Cup website.

Billy Harris will seek to finalize the tie in favor of the Brits when he competes against Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the men’s singles. Should Etcheverry secure a victory, a mixed doubles match will determine the outcome of the tie.
