New Delhi, Dec 2 (NationPress) Former South African cricketer Dale Steyn is confident that the Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma showcase will persist during the ongoing ODI series, particularly with the second ODI scheduled for Wednesday in Raipur.
At the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi, India faced a challenging moment but managed to secure victory against South Africa by 17 runs in a thrilling contest, taking a 1-0 advantage in the three-match series.
Discussing the upcoming second ODI, JioStar expert Dale Steyn remarked: “I anticipate the Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma spectacle to continue. I am curious to observe which fast bowlers and spinners will step up and make an impact.”
India posted an impressive first innings score thanks to a stellar century from Virat Kohli and significant contributions from Rohit Sharma and K.L. Rahul, achieving a remarkable total of 398/8 in 50 overs despite an early challenge. Later, Kuldeep Yadav (4/68) and Harshit Rana (3/65) played pivotal roles in securing the win.
The seasoned duo of Rohit and Kohli built a solid 136-run partnership, relieving pressure after an initial setback. Rohit scored a rapid 57 off 51 balls, surpassing Shahid Afridi’s long-standing record for most ODI sixes before being dismissed by Marco Jansen.
Meanwhile, Kohli continued his remarkable form, reaching his 83rd international century and 52nd in ODIs. After hitting three figures, he accelerated his scoring, taking on Prenelan Subrayen with two fours and two sixes.
Rahul provided excellent support with a well-constructed 60, forming a crucial 76-run partnership with Kohli. Following Kohli’s dismissal for 135, Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja propelled India towards a substantial finish with a 65-run partnership. However, a late collapse, including wickets from Corbin Bosch and Jansen, limited India to 349/8.
Steyn highlighted the significance of wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock and anticipates a strong performance from him. “It’s been a batter’s paradise thus far, so which bowlers will rise to the occasion in the second ODI? Quinton de Kock didn’t score in the first ODI, but I believe he has a point to prove. He is a key player for South Africa to deliver big runs.”
