Virat Kohli's Fall: 'The Monarch has Fallen, Bumrah Takes Charge,' Remarks Katich

Melbourne, Dec 30 (NationPress) Former Australian cricketer Simon Katich made a sharp remark regarding Virat Kohli's dismissal in India's second innings of the Boxing Day Test, stating, 'The monarch has fallen,' when India's leading batsman was dismissed cheaply for 5 runs by Mitchell Starc at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday.
Faced with a daunting target of 340 runs, India encountered a significant setback in the initial session of Day 5. Kohli, who was on 3 runs, was dismissed in the final over before the lunch break, edging a wide delivery from Mitchell Starc to the slips.
Kohli's performance in the series has been disappointing; he began with a low score of five before achieving a century in the second innings of the series opener in Perth. Subsequently, he recorded scores of 7, 11, 3, 36, and 5 in the following five innings, amassing a total of 167 runs in four matches.
'The monarch has fallen. He trudges off. King Bumrah has now taken the mantle. Kohli appears dejected with himself. This was a crucial innings for him, and he has come up short. Australia will be exceedingly pleased with their current position.'
Bumrah has almost single-handedly kept India afloat in this Test series, claiming 30 wickets at an average of 12.83 across eight innings. He has played 44 Test matches and secured 203 wickets.
Kohli's dismissal left India reeling at 33 for 3 by lunch, with their chances of salvaging the Test hanging by a thread. After lunch, India mounted a spirited comeback, led by Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who showcased resilience and determination, forming a vital 88-run partnership. However, this resistance collapsed after the tea break when Pant fell for 30 after a reckless shot.
The visitors lost their final seven wickets for just 34 runs in 20.3 overs. The last Indian wicket tumbled with less than 14 overs remaining in the day, as Nathan Lyon dismissed Mohammed Siraj, sending the MCG crowd of over 74,000 into a frenzy as an intense battle between these two arch-rivals came to a close.
For India, the outcome will be disappointing, as they had a chance to draw but ultimately found themselves on the losing side.
