New Delhi, Nov 29 (NationPress) Indian cricketer Bharti Fulmali shared her feelings of anxiety during the WPL 2026 auction, stating she felt appreciated when the Gujarat Giants (GG) exercised their Right to Match (RTM) card to retain her for the forthcoming season, slated for January 9 to February 5, 2026.
After previously representing India in two T20I matches in 2019, Bharti was brought back by GG for Rs 70 lakh, successfully overcoming a bid from the Mumbai Indians (MI). In the previous 2025 season, she made a significant impact by scoring her first WPL fifty for GG in just 22 balls, putting MI on edge.
“I was quite anxious when Gujarat Giants raised the paddle late in the bidding. However, I felt elated when Mumbai Indians also expressed interest in me. When GG utilized their RTM card to keep me, it demonstrated their confidence in me and truly made me feel valued,” she mentioned during an interview on JioStar.
Bharti also expressed her excitement about sharing the dressing room with the legendary New Zealand all-rounder Sophie Devine in the 2026 WPL. “I was thrilled when Gujarat signed Sophie Devine in the first round,” she said.
“Being her teammate means I’ll have the opportunity to play alongside a notable player like her, a T20 World Cup champion who has brought numerous victories for New Zealand. Playing with such accomplished athletes always contributes to your development, and I am eagerly looking forward to an amazing season 4 with Gujarat Giants,” added Bharti.
In her WPL journey, Bharti has maintained an impressive batting average of 49.25 and a high strike rate of 151.53 as a finisher. “This will mark my proper debut since I previously played only as an injury replacement for Harleen Deol. After not being picked in the last two auctions, this moment is incredibly special,” she stated.
“While I was anxious during the bidding, I felt fantastic when Gujarat Giants chose me. Having spent my last two seasons with them, my desire to return to the team was strong,” she added.
On the other hand, New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr expressed her eagerness to reunite with the Mumbai Indians for the upcoming season, after being reacquired for Rs. 3 crore. “I am excited to rejoin the Mumbai Indians family. My last three years here have been wonderful, especially winning two WPL trophies. I’m looking forward to achieving more championships with this incredible team.”
