Guwahati, Nov 25 (NationPress) As the second Test between India and South Africa reaches Day 4, all-rounder Washington Sundar expressed that the constant shifts in his batting position do not unsettle him, provided he retains a positive mindset and believes in his ability to perform.
His batting order has come under scrutiny from various analysts as he was assigned to the middle order for the second Test, following a stint at No. 3 during the first match held in Kolkata.
Before the day's play started, Dinesh Karthik engaged Sundar in conversation, asking, “I’ve noticed you’ve been shuffled quite a bit in the batting lineup. How do you adapt to each of these positions?”
The 26-year-old responded positively, stating, “In such situations, I focus my mindset on one key principle: this is how I intend to play regardless of the position I occupy. This approach brings me clarity and serenity. Ultimately, it’s a chance for me to be out there and spend time in the middle, which I regard as a significant opportunity every time.”
The Proteas continued to pose a challenge to the home side in the second Test, boasting a substantial lead of over 300 runs. The visitors dismissed India on Day 3 and commenced their second innings, aiming to set a formidable target for India.
For their part, India must aim to limit South Africa's total in the second innings to keep their hopes of winning the Test alive, particularly after their disappointing loss in the first match.
When asked what India needs to do to stage a comeback, Sundar emphasized the necessity for bowlers to maintain tight spells and avoid conceding runs.
“We need to take wickets and bowl effectively. It's crucial not to give away too many runs, especially in the initial sessions. Delivering tight bowling and taking wickets is essential, and with our batting lineup, anything can happen,” said Sundar.
