London, Aug 3 (NationPress) Former Indian fast bowler Varun Aaron asserts that all-rounder Washington Sundar is having one of the most impressive Test series during the ongoing tour of England.
Sundar, who achieved his first Test century at Old Trafford in Manchester, has amassed 284 runs over eight innings in four Tests of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
In the current fifth and final Test at The Oval, Sundar notched his fourth half-century during India's second innings, contributing to a robust performance alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal's century and fifties from Akash Deep and Ravindra Jadeja. This determined batting display allowed India to score 396, setting a target of 374 runs.
On the bowling side, Sundar has taken seven wickets so far and is yet to bowl in England's second innings at The Oval.
Aaron praised Sundar's composed batting throughout the tour, attributing this success to the consistent chances provided to the all-rounder.
“Washington Sundar is revealing various facets of his game, whether it’s rescuing a Test match for India or accelerating towards the end with the tail. He’s also claimed very crucial wickets,” Aaron remarked on JioHotstar.
“Washington has exhibited one of the finest Test series due to the repeated opportunities given to him. The moment you provide a player with security, this is the outcome. That flourish towards the end was exceptional, as he is consistently contributing important runs, including fifties following his previous hundred,” he added.
In response, England reached 50 for 1 at stumps, with Mohammed Siraj making a significant breakthrough just before the end of play on Saturday, executing a precise off-stump yorker to dismiss the formidable Zak Crawley, giving India a slight advantage as they head into day four.
