New Delhi, July 25 (NationPress) Amidst speculation surrounding Newcastle forward Alexander Isak's desire to depart the club in the summer transfer window, defender Dan Burn expressed that the team would be disheartened to lose the Swedish striker, given the close bonds within the squad.
On Thursday, Isak was omitted from Newcastle’s pre-season lineup due to a thigh injury. However, reports from ESPN indicate that Isak has communicated his intention to leave the club, with Liverpool, PSG, and Al-Hilal showing interest. Newcastle, however, appears unwilling to part with him.
"If we were to lose any player, it would certainly disturb our closely-knit group, which has been together for the past two or three years. The departure of any player is not beneficial, but from our perspective, we will focus on what we can control. We eagerly await Alex’s return when he regains fitness.
"Ultimately, that decision rests with Alex. He’s undeniably a key player for us, yet our squad boasts considerable quality as well. The addition of Anthony Elanga is a testament to that, as I believe it was an excellent acquisition,” Burn remarked during an interview with Sky Sports.
Isak significantly contributed to Newcastle's impressive season, netting 27 goals in 42 matches across all competitions, securing a UEFA Champions League spot for the upcoming season while also ending the club's trophy drought by clinching the Carabao Cup.
Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes conveyed that, to his knowledge, Isak's absence from the squad traveling to Singapore for the match against Arsenal on July 27 is attributed to his injury.
"Certainly, he’s a top player, and we are aware of the circumstances surrounding him. However, he is at home undergoing physical treatment. Our goal is to retain our best players, and I want to clarify that his absence is due to injury, not anything else,” emphasized Bruno.
"He’s an elite striker, and his performance over the past three seasons speaks volumes. But as far as I know, he is at home because of his injury. It’s beyond my scope to comment further; that’s a matter for the club to manage,” Bruno added.
