Vadodara, Jan 20 (NationPress) Following two victories and three defeats, including one at home in Vadodara, the Gujarat Giants, owned by Adani Sportsline, are determined to give their all in the last three matches of the WPL 2026 as they believe they still have a shot at the playoffs at Kotambi Stadium.
During a press conference in Vadodara on Tuesday, the team’s players and coaches reflected on their journey this season and emphasized the importance of returning to Kotambi Stadium to compete in front of their local fans.
Head Coach Michael Klinger stated, “Our original plan was to discover the right mix, particularly for our playing XI. We’ve had discussions about the style of cricket we aspire to play and the milestones we aim to hit, both in Mumbai and now in Vadodara. I felt we showcased some excellent cricket in our initial matches with two robust victories, but in the last three games, we’ve slightly lost our rhythm and haven’t performed at our peak. With three matches remaining, we are still very much in the race. We will need to adjust our game plan a bit, especially considering the different playing conditions here.”
Captain Ashleigh Gardner shared the team’s optimism. “We’ve had our fair share of good and less impressive performances, but it’s crucial to have faith in our preparation, both as individuals and as a team. We’re committed to fostering an environment where everyone is collaborating effectively. For us, it’s about adhering to our methods and hopefully delivering stronger performances for our home supporters in these final matches.”
Experienced fast bowler Renuka Singh discussed the need to adapt to Vadodara's conditions. “The pitch here has been somewhat unique, with varying soil and slightly reduced bounce. As bowlers, we must quickly acclimate to the conditions, and it’s wonderful to play in front of our local crowd.”
Young debutant Anushka Sharma, who is having a notable season, expressed her thoughts. “This season has been remarkable. I’ve been given a clear role and the chance to bat in my preferred position at one down, which has boosted my confidence. Each day has provided a new learning opportunity for me.”
The Gujarat Giants are set to face UP Warriorz in their next WPL 2026 match at Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara, in just a few days.
