Sri Lanka launches 3-day dengue control drive

Sri Lanka's Ministry of Health and Mass Media launched a three-day national dengue mosquito control programme on Monday, 8 June 2026, deploying health teams across Colombo for fogging operations on the opening day.

Sri Lankan health authorities inspected more than 70,000 premises on the first day alone of the national drive, according to the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, targeting potential mosquito breeding sites across the island.

According to the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, Sri Lanka has recorded 36,168 dengue cases and 20 deaths so far in 2026, underlining the scale of the outbreak that prompted the national crackdown.

Sri Lanka is conducting systematic inspections of premises in Colombo and beyond to eliminate standing water and mosquito breeding sites, as part of the three-day national dengue mosquito control programme that began on 9 June 2026.
