Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, Chief of the Naval Staff, led the formal commissioning of INS Nipun in Mumbai on 31 August 2026, with Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan and senior officers from Hindustan Shipyard in attendance at the ceremony.
INS Nipun is the second Diving Support Vessel to be indigenously designed and constructed for the Indian Navy, built by Hindustan Shipyard. Its commissioning in Mumbai on 31 August 2026 marks a milestone in India's naval self-reliance drive.
With the induction of INS Nipun, the Indian Navy now operates two indigenously built Diving Support Vessels, bolstering its underwater operations and salvage capabilities. Admiral Krishna Swaminathan commissioned the vessel in Mumbai on 31 August 2026.
