Shah addresses press on tripartite oil and gas deal

Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the media in New Delhi on 11 June 2026 following the signing of a tripartite MoU between the Government of India, Assam and Nagaland to jointly explore and produce crude oil and natural gas along their shared border.

A tripartite Memorandum of Understanding was signed on 11 June 2026 between the Government of India and the state governments of Assam and Nagaland, paving the way for structured exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas in the border region.

The Centre-brokered agreement brings Assam and Nagaland together to unlock hydrocarbon resources along their shared border, with Home Minister Amit Shah overseeing the pact in New Delhi on 11 June 2026.

Speaking after the signing, Home Minister Amit Shah outlined the significance of the tripartite MoU for energy development in northeast India, with the accord formally executed in New Delhi on 11 June 2026.
