Nandighosha, Taladhwaja, Darpadalana under construction

Hereditary Maharana servitors are crafting the three sacred chariots — Nandighosha, Taladhwaja and Darpadalana — for Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra respectively, ahead of the Rath Yatra in Puri, Odisha.

Traditional Maharana craftsmen in Puri are assembling the trio of ceremonial chariots for the annual Gundicha Yatra — a ritual procession also known as Rath Yatra — scheduled in Puri district, Odisha in July 2026.

The chariot Nandighosha is dedicated to Lord Jagannath, Taladhwaja to Lord Balabhadra, and Darpadalana to Devi Subhadra — each built by hereditary Maharana servitors as part of centuries-old tradition in Puri.

As of 3 July 2026, construction of all three sacred chariots was actively progressing in Puri, Odisha, with Maharana servitors working ahead of the Rath Yatra — one of India's largest annual religious processions.
