New Delhi, July 20 (NationPress) Abu Talib, a resident of the Jamia Nagar area in Muzaffarnagar, has been apprehended in relation to a significant religious conversion scheme that was uncovered by the Uttar Pradesh Police.
This arrest follows actions taken by the Agra Police under directives from state officials, who claim that the scheme involved exploiting minor girls for religious conversion through coercion and inducement.
Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna disclosed the details of the operation during a press briefing held in Lucknow. He mentioned that the gang operated across six states, with ten individuals arrested and incarcerated so far, including Talib.
However, Talib's family vehemently refutes these allegations, asserting his innocence and denying any connection to a conversion network.
Talib's mother, Zayda, stated, “My son is innocent. He works as a tailor and takes on labor jobs to support our family. We live in a rented home. He is the youngest of four siblings, with an older brother who runs a sweet shop.”
“Two days ago, police forcefully entered our residence and took Talib away. They confiscated his mobile phone. He was just about to drop his sister off at her workplace when they apprehended him. Initially, the police informed us they merely required some information and that he was not under arrest,” she added.
Zayda reported that some officers were in uniform while others were dressed casually. “They disrupted our peace. Talib was preparing for his sister’s wedding. Now everything is in disarray,” she said with tears in her eyes.
The family is calling for a thorough investigation and Talib’s prompt release, asserting that he has no criminal history and earns a living through honest means.
As of now, the police have not publicly addressed the family's concerns.
