Key Takeaways
Jaipur, Nov 10 (NationPress) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Kota has detained Akram Hussain, a broker, for allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 20,000 for a Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) Inspector in the Bhawanimandi region of Rajasthan's Jhalawar.
The primary suspect, CBN Inspector Hitesh Kumar, escaped the scene while carrying a sum of money that included fake notes totaling Rs 1.90 lakh.
As per Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Mukul Sharma from the ACB’s Special Unit, the complainant reached out to the bureau, claiming that Inspector Hitesh Kumar and his associates were demanding a Rs three lakh bribe to prevent his father from being implicated in a fabricated narcotics case.
In response to the complaint, the ACB validated the claims through recorded calls, confirming the bribe solicitation and subsequently set up a sting operation. On Sunday, at approximately 9.30 p.m., the complainant arrived at the CBN Bhawanimandi office with Rs 30,000 in real currency and Rs 2.70 lakh in counterfeit notes, as instructed by the ACB team.
During the exchange, ACB officials intervened and apprehended broker Akram Hussain while he was accepting Rs 20,000 in cash. However, Inspector Hitesh Kumar managed to escape with part of the bribe.
While fleeing, the inspector dropped a package containing Rs one lakh, his mobile device, and numerous documents approximately 100 meters from the location.
The retrieved package included Rs 20,000 in real currency and Rs 80,000 in fake notes. It is suspected that Hitesh escaped with another bundle of Rs 2 lakh, comprising Rs 1.90 lakh in counterfeit notes and Rs 10,000 in genuine currency.
The ACB has initiated a comprehensive search to find the missing inspector.
According to ACB Director General Govind Gupta, a report was filed at the ACB Kota office asserting that Inspector Hitesh Kumar, stationed at the Central Narcotics Bureau in Bhawani Mandi, along with another accomplice, had abducted the complainant’s father from his residence on November 7 and solicited a Rs 3 lakh bribe for his release to prevent false charges in a marijuana case.
