Ahmedabad, July 8 (NationPress) - Adani Power Ltd (APL) announced on Tuesday that it has successfully finalized the acquisition and resolution plan execution of Vidarbha Industries Power Ltd (VIPL) for a sum of Rs 4,000 crore.
This acquisition elevates Adani Power's operational capacity to 18,150 MW, reinforcing its status as India’s leading private base load power generation entity, with ambitions to achieve 30,670 MW of operational capacity by 2030.
“The acquisition of VIPL marks a significant achievement in Adani Power’s strategy to extract value from stressed assets. As we expand our portfolio, we are dedicated to supporting India’s vision of ‘Electricity for All’ by providing reliable, economical base-load power that propels the nation’s sustainable development,” stated SB Khyalia, Chief Executive Officer of Adani Power Ltd.
VIPL comprises a 2×300 MW domestic coal-fired power facility situated in Butibori, located in the Nagpur district. It was undergoing the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC).
On June 18, 2025, the Mumbai Bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) approved Adani Power’s resolution strategy, which was successfully executed on July 7, 2025.
Adani Power elaborated that it is further expanding its base load power generation capabilities through a combination of both brownfield and greenfield initiatives.
Currently, it is engaged in constructing six brownfield Ultra-supercritical power plants (USCTPP) with a capacity of 1,600 MW each at various existing sites including Singrauli-Mahan in Madhya Pradesh, Raipur, Raigarh, Korba in Chhattisgarh, and Kawai in Rajasthan, along with a 1,600 MW greenfield USCTPP in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh.
Furthermore, it is resuming the development of a 1,320 MW Supercritical power plant in Korba, previously acquired earlier.
As part of the Adani portfolio, Adani Power boasts an installed capacity of 18,150 MW across thermal power facilities in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Tamil Nadu. Additionally, it operates a 40 MW solar power plant in Gujarat.
