Ahmedabad, Dec 7 (NationPress) The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officially launched and laid the groundwork for public development initiatives valued at Rs 1,507 crore during a ceremony attended by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
Among the total projects, Rs 525 crore worth of 28 initiatives were inaugurated, while foundation stones were set for 30 projects totaling Rs 982 crore.
The event featured the draw for 465 affordable housing units established under the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana and 1,573 units under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Symbolic keys were presented to beneficiaries by the Union Home Minister.
In Devnagar, HM Amit Shah initiated the groundbreaking for a new mini sports complex. Additionally, appointment letters were given to 102 newly recruited Assistant Firemen of the AMC.
While addressing the crowd, Union Minister Amit Shah emphasized that Ahmedabad is diligently preparing to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and is making strides toward readiness for the 2036 Olympics. He underscored the expansion of sports infrastructure in the city, which now includes both international-level facilities and local community sports hubs.
HM Shah remarked that the sports ecosystem envisioned in Gujarat by former Chief Minister Narendra Modi through the Khel Mahakumbh has now evolved into the nationwide Khelo India movement, promoting both physical and mental fitness among the youth.
He highlighted that alongside the world's largest cricket stadium, the forthcoming Sardar Patel Sports Enclave and other projects will significantly enhance Ahmedabad's position on the global sports stage.
The Minister also referenced pivotal infrastructure achievements in Gujarat, including the world's largest renewable energy park, the Dholera greenfield smart city, the Surat–Chennai economic corridor, the Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train, and India’s pioneering financial tech city—GIFT City.
Discussing national development, Shah remarked on India's elevated global stature under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with progress evident in national security, infrastructure, agriculture, irrigation, and the economy. He mentioned the Ayodhya Ram Temple, noting that the 2019 bhoomi pujan, 2024 pran pratishtha, and the upcoming 2025 flag hoisting symbolize a historic achievement under PM’s guidance.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel stated that Amit Shah has continuously championed development initiatives in the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency, aspiring to transform it into the most developed parliamentary seat in the nation. He revealed that development projects worth over Rs 22,551 crore have been executed in the area in recent years.
He further noted that Ahmedabad is poised to become India's sports capital, with the 2030 Commonwealth Games anticipated to accelerate infrastructure advancements and enhance the city's global recognition. The Chief Minister pointed out significant enhancements in urban infrastructure, including roads, water supply, drainage, and stormwater management, along with improvements in public spaces such as parks, libraries, and sports complexes.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), over 13 lakh houses have been constructed in Gujarat, he added. He also highlighted the constituency's increasing green cover, with 28 lakh trees planted, establishment of Miyawaki urban forests, rejuvenation of lakes, and the creation of oxygen parks contributing to an eco-friendly environment across the city.
HM Amit Shah also inaugurated several significant projects throughout the city, including 881 EWS houses at Thaltej (Tulsi Residency), the Electrotherm Garden in South Bopal, the redeveloped Narsinh Mehta Lake at Vastrapur, Shri Kshetra Sarovar at Sarkhej, the Narayanrao Bhandari Open Party Plot at Memnagar, 350 rehabilitation houses at New Wadaj–Natna Chapra, and a new Mini Sports Complex in Gota. He also toured the sports activity center near Ranip Railway Overbridge and the gymnasium and library at New Ranip.
