Dimapur (Nagaland)/Imphal, June 19 (NationPress) The remains of 26-year-old Lamnunthem Singson, one of the two Air India crew members from Manipur who tragically lost their lives in the devastating plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, were received in Nagaland’s Dimapur on Thursday. Following this, she was transported to her home in Kangpokpi district in Manipur, as reported by officials.

At the Dimapur airport, Singson's family, relatives, and community leaders gathered to honor her memory with floral tributes, mourning the loss of a young life cut short.

According to family sources, Singson's mortal remains were directed to Kangpokpi rather than the capital Imphal due to ongoing ethnic tensions and security concerns.

“The final rites for Singson are expected to take place either tonight or on Friday, as her body is anticipated to arrive in Kangpokpi by late evening,” the sources noted.

Officials in Imphal have not confirmed when the body of the other crew member, Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma (20), will be brought back to Imphal.

The Chief Secretary of Manipur, Prashant Kumar Singh, stated that the state government has assured both Tata Group and Air India of its preparedness to receive the mortal remains of the two brave crew members in Imphal.

He highlighted that essential arrangements have been made to ensure their remains are treated with utmost dignity and respect, and will be safely transported to their respective homes.

“The final decision regarding the reception, ceremonies, and other arrangements is respectfully left to the bereaved families. The State is dedicated to providing all necessary support in accordance with their wishes,” the statement read.

The Chief Secretary emphasized that this tragedy represents not just the loss of two individuals; it signifies the extinguishing of dreams and the departure of daughters who brought pride to Manipur. These two bright lights, once soaring among the clouds, will be remembered with honor and reverence,” Singh added.

Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma was a member of the non-tribal Meitei community from Thoubal district, while Lamnunthem Singson belonged to the tribal Thadou community and hailed from the tribal-inhabited Kangpokpi district.

Previously, family members of both Singson and Sharma traveled to Ahmedabad to complete the necessary formalities for retrieving the remains of their loved ones.
