Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma and 26-year-old Lamnunthem Singson, both crew members from the northeastern state, lost their lives in the Ahmedabad incident, which resulted in 275 fatalities, encompassing 241 passengers, crew members, and 34 individuals on the ground as the aircraft crashed into a medical college hostel.
Family members overcome with grief, along with senior officials, elected representatives, local residents, and community leaders, welcomed Sharma's remains at the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal.
Prominent figures such as Congress’ Lok Sabha Member from Manipur, Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, Manipur Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh, and Director General of Police Rajiv Singh honored Sharma with floral tributes.
Following customary rituals, her remains were subsequently transported to Thoubal district for the final rites.
Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma hailed from Manipur's Thoubal district and belonged to the non-tribal Meitei community.
Earlier, Sharma's family traveled to Ahmedabad to finalize the arrangements for retrieving their beloved's remains.
Her last message to her family before departure read, “I'm going to London. In a few minutes, we'll take off. We may not be able to talk afterwards.”
She joined Air India three years ago after succeeding in a recruitment drive in Imphal, while pursuing her undergraduate studies.
“She was selected and stationed in Mumbai,” her family shared.
On June 20, a heartfelt farewell was also held for 26-year-old Lamnunthem Singson in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.
Singson's remains were first flown into Dimapur airport in Nagaland from Ahmedabad on June 19 and then transported to Kangpokpi, bypassing Imphal due to ongoing ethnic tensions and security concerns.
He was a resident of Kangpokpi district and belonged to the tribal Thadou community.
On June 12, an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner carrying 242 passengers and crew tragically crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad. Miraculously, there was one survivor, a British passenger, named Ramesh Vishwas Kumar, who escaped the calamity.
