Chandigarh, Aug 7 (NationPress) The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has declared its intention to initiate an indefinite morcha starting September 1, targeting the Punjab government's land pooling policy. This policy proposes to acquire approximately 26,000 acres in the Ludhiana district for the development of residential and commercial projects.
Before commencing their protest march, the Akali Dal will conduct an 'ardas' at Sri Akal Takht Sahib on August 31.
SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal informed the press that this 'morcha' is aimed at protecting farmers, agricultural workers, traders, and other societal groups adversely affected by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Convener Arvind Kejriwal's Rs 30,000 crore agreement with builders in Delhi, designed to fund his political aspirations across the nation.
Badal will spearhead the initial 'jatha' (group) on September 1, departing from Gurudwara Amb Sahib in Mohali and proceeding to the new 'Sheesh Mahal' at the adjacent Panchayat Bhawan, where Kejriwal has established his residence in Punjab.
Following this, SAD members from every Assembly constituency will engage in a continuous 'dharna' and march from the same location in 'jathas' of 500 individuals each, indefinitely, until the AAP government retracts the land pooling policy.
A three-member coordination committee, comprising Daljit Singh Cheema, N.K. Sharma, and Parminder Singh Sohana, the president of the Mohali district, has been established to oversee the statewide protest.
Badal also stated that the party unanimously agreed to abolish the land pooling scheme after assuming control of the state in 2027, should the AAP government continue with its malicious agenda.
"We will return all acquired land to farmers by enacting a special law, akin to the return of land for the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal to its original owners by Parkash Singh Badal in 2016," he asserted.
The SAD President called upon all Akali leaders who have departed the party for various reasons to reunite, in alignment with the recent appeal from Akal Takht advocating for unity within the 'quom'.
Emphasizing his commitment to the directives of Akal Takht, Sukhbir Singh Badal stated, "I bow my head to the Takht. Every Sikh must adhere to the guidance of the Singh Sahiban. I earnestly invite all former Akali leaders to return to their roots to fortify the 'panth' and Punjab. I also ask for their forgiveness for any past grievances, as we must prioritize strengthening the 'jathebandi' during this critical time."
Additionally, he condemned the ongoing witch hunt in the Majha region, where supporters of senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia have faced police harassment.
He asserted that Majithia has been falsely implicated in a fabricated case, as various Special Investigation Teams (SITs) have failed to find evidence of wrongdoing.
Sukhbir Singh Badal stated that senior police officials are responsible for upholding the law, not violating it, and could face action for such illegalities.
Furthermore, he mentioned that SAD plans to approach the Governor, Gulab Chand Kataria, to brief him on the entire situation soon.
